For a city of its size, Basel has an unusual amount of sport in a small area. Over 800 facilities lie within the city and the surrounding region: gyms, pitches, tennis courts, climbing halls, boathouses on the Rhine, plus the outdoor pools and the ice rink. Much of it belongs to the canton and is open to clubs and individuals alike.
The map combines the facilities of the Basel-Stadt sports office with entries from OpenStreetMap and sorts them by discipline. Opening hours are the weak point: the canton keeps none for sports facilities, and OpenStreetMap has them for only a small share.
