MADIBA — Marcus Diener Basel. Since 1964 we have let, managed and repositioned properties in Basel and the region. A selection of conversions in which industrial sites became vibrant neighbourhoods — from first letting through management to decades of operation.
Where the Stückfärberei dyed textiles until 1983, one of the largest retail and commercial locations in north-western Switzerland took shape. Madiba was responsible for the commercial letting; three further buildings were subsequently realised and let.
On the former industrial site where Patent-Ochsner waste bins were once manufactured, a mixed neighbourhood took shape in the Matthäus quarter (Hammerstrasse / Bläsiring / Efringerstrasse) with 88 apartments, 8 studios, a kindergarten and shops across 15,600 m². Madiba took on the first letting and management of the new neighbourhood.
After brewing ended, the Warteck site on Burgweg was carefully repurposed: partial demolition, the brewhouse turned into a culture and restaurant venue, a new office building with retail (Migros), and new housing. Madiba supported the letting and management of the site.
A consortium acquired the former Stöcklin industrial site on Schorenweg; Madiba handled commercial letting and management for years, up to the sale. Today, uptownBasel, the Industry 4.0 campus, stands there in Arlesheim.
The residential development on Riedbergstrasse on Bruderholz in Basel is managed by Madiba — reliably and over the years, with an eye for the whole and for residents' concerns.
The roughly 40-metre-high, upward-tapering Helsinki Tower by Herzog & de Meuron was the first residential building on the Dreispitz site: 41 rental apartments each with their own floor plan (loft character, free-standing retro tubs) above a base with archive and office space. Madiba was responsible for the first letting — after occupancy in 2014, the apartments were snapped up quickly.
Across three stages of use — from Migros grocery retail through Vapiano chain gastronomy to a curated food market: 564 m², 120 seats and individual kitchen boxes for restaurateurs from around the world, right in the heart of Basel's banking and office district.
Modelled on Asian markets, the Hawkers Street Food & Fun Market in the basement of Sternengasse 19 brings together several street-food stalls under one roof — complemented by play, sport and event offerings for young and old. Madiba operates the hall and was responsible for its development and letting; on the ground floor of the same building is the sister concept Starbites.
Owner-occupied living in a quiet location in Oberwil — Madiba was responsible for marketing and managing the condominium units.
